Coastguard Hawkes Bay wins 'PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR'


Coastguard Hawke's Bay was awarded 'performance of the year' at the National Coastguard conference in Christchurch in September.

The unit was recognised for its outstanding rescues during 2008-9 and its dedication to education and upgrading it's rescue vessel to better meet the needs of the HB boating community.

Coastguard New Zealand chief executive officer Bruce Reid described the Hawke's Bay team as an "outstanding example" of commitment and heroism.

Coastguard Hawke's Bay is based in the recently revamped building on Meeanee Quay provides a marine search and rescue service to the greater Hawke’s Bay region. This service is under the control and direction of Police during these emergencies; however we also provide a community service to local boaties with breakdown assist, boat safety gear checks, oil spill response and safety education.
