Inner Harbour - 13/06/10 1340 hours

Coastguard were called to assist a vessel sinking in the inner harbour at its moorings. Coastguard assisted the owner by pumping the vessel out.

Off the Port Entrance - 05/06/10 0820 hours

Coastguard responded to a sighting of a boat that appeared to be on fire due to large amounts of smoke that could be seen from shore. On arrival it was established that all was safe and well and it was steam not smoke.

Off Marine Parade - 25/04/10 0830 hours

Police called Coastguard to respond to a flare sighting off the Sound Shell on Marine Parade. Nothing located.

Tutaekuri River Mouth - 21/03/10 0023 hours

Coastguard were called to search for a missing 19 year old man who had been missing for three hours from the Tutaekuri River Mouth.  Coastguard attended and completed a shore line search. The man was located by police onshore at 0248 hours.

Whirinaki Beach - 13/03/10 1404 hours

A vessel overturned 100 metres off Whirinaki Beacha dn Police called Coastguard to assist. CK Rescue located the vessel, righted it and towed it to shore. No People were located. Police advised they had received information that the vessel had overturned earlier in the day and the occupants had swum to shore.

Waimarama - 25/02/10 1205 hours

Police called Coastguard to assist in the rescue of people stranded on rocks by the incoming tide between Waimarama and Cray Bay. Coastguard left base to assist and were stood down when the people were able to walk out safely.

Off Haumoana - 12/02/10 2231 hours

Police activated Coastguard to search for a possible vessel in distress after members of the public saw a flare due east off the coast of Haumoana. Coastguard searched in area described, identified possible targets but no vessels needed assistance.

Off Marine Parade  - 26/01/10 0400 hours

Police activated Coastguard to search for a possible vessel in distress after members of the public saw a flare off Marine Parade.

Westshore Beach - 16/01/10 0909 hours

A vessel capsized in the surf just off Westshore beach. The three occupants swam ashore but the boat was a hazard moving in the surf approximately 10 metres off the shore. Coastguard was called to assist.

In the Bay - 04/01/10 0045 hours

The yacht Einstein contacted Coastguard after having engine failure while travelling from Picton to Auckland. Coastguard met the yacht and navigated it safely into the visitors berth so it could undergo repairs. All 4 POB were safe and well. 

Off Clive Outfall - 04/01/10 1330 hours

A novice canoeist left Awatoto in a Canadian Canoe at 1300 hours. The vessel was unable to be located from the shore so Police were called. Coastguard, Coastguard Air Patrol, private vessel "Super Scheme" and the Rescue helicopter were tasked to locate the canoe or canoeist. Coastguard completed an in shore search and located the canoeist in the water at 1552 hours. He was returned safely to his family.

Off Bare Island - 29/12/09 2228 hours

Coastguard responded to a flare sighting off Bare Island. A red flare was seen by members of the public on land. Coastguard searched area and was unable to find any vessels in distress.

Pania Reef - 29/12/09 1634 hours

An overdue diver was reported off Pania Reef. Diver was located and delivered to a waiting ambulance.

Westshore - 29/11/09 1154 hours

Coastguard attended a 111 call to assist a 16 foot overturned dinghy off Westshore Beach. One person was trapped in the upside down dinghy while 2 other people on board were recovered safely. The trapped person was recovered, given medical assistance and transported back to awaiting paramedics on shore. Coastguard then returned to vessel to pump it out and recover it.

Cape Kidnappers - 21/11/09 1324 hours

Coastguard responded to a Mayday relay from Maritime Radio. The vessel Hard out was broken down in very rough seas between Cape Kidnappers and Awatoto and the occupants were extremely concerned for their safety. Coastguard located the vessel and towed them home in 40 knot winds with a 3 metre swell.

In the Bay - 13/11/09 1940 hours

Police tasked the Coastguard to search for a broken down vessel with two people on board. A flare was sighted and Coastguard located the vessel and towed it back to shore.

Port of Napier - 16/10/09 2215 hours

Coastguard was tasked by the NZ Police to look for a person believed to have entered the water in the Port Of Napier. Coastguard searched the water while Police searched on land. The person was later found safe and well.

In the Bay - 09/10/09 0130 hours

The yacht Ecstacy 2 was en route to Fiji from Wellington when a decision was made by the skipper to abandon the trip due to sea conditions and ill health. Coastguard assisted the vessel into a safe berth in Napier Inner Harbour.

Southern Hawkes Bay - 12/06/09 0738 hours
The Police tasked Coastguard to assist a 15 metre vessel that had engine problems and was taking on water. The sea conditions were extremely poor with 4-5 metre swells, up to 55 knot winds and poor visability.

The Coastguard delivered 2 crew members and a pump to the stricken vessel and a large fishing trawler was called in to tow the stricken vessel to Napier.

Due to the rough sea conditions the tow line snapped three times and it was too dangerous to reattach it. The 4 people on board the stricken vessel were transferred to a raft and then onto 2 fishing vessels and the stricken vessel was abandoned. The vessel washed up north of Waimarama Beach.

It was an extremely rough, long, slow trip home with the Coastguard returning to base at 2200 hours and the trawlers with survivers at 0230 hours the following morning.

Off the Coast of Clifton - 14/05/09 1538 hours
The Police tasked Coastguard to search for a 3 metre inflatable boat drifting out to sea off the coast of Clifton. As the vessel was on route to Clifton it was confirmed that the inflatable boat had made it safely ashore and the vessel was instead tasked to a flare sighting off the coast of Waimarama Beach. After further investigations by Police the flare was concluded to have been set off from shore so Coastguard was stood down.

Clifton Beach - 06/02/09 0900 hours
A steel hulled yacht ran aground on rocks at Clifton Beach. Coastguard were tasked to assist the yacht to refloat at high tide and then to tow the vessel back to Napier.

Two Coastguard members set up the tow lines and prepared the yacht while the Coastguard Naiad travelled to Clifton. The yacht was successfully pulled off and a brought back to the Sailing Club. - Video

In the Bay - 11/01/09 0937 hours
Police activated Coastguard to search for a 16ft Blue topped Kauri boat that was reported missing with two people on board. Boat had left the previous night for a fishing/dive trip and not returned.

Coastguard searched Town Reef and Pania areas with no success. Another vessel called on Coastguard radio and reported seeing a Kauri vessel moving slowly towards town earlier in the day. He gave area.

Coastguard searched to reported area and located the Kauri boat, broken down and towed it home.

Off Te Awanga - 06/01/09 2149 hours
Members of public reported a vessel off Te Awanga with no lights. Coastguard attended and found an empty vessel, anchored, displaying no lights. Coastguard attached a strobe light to the vessel to minimise any navigational safety hazard.

Inner Harbour - 01/01/09 1620 hours
Coastguard called to assist sailing vessel which was taking on water. Coastguard assisted with water pump to empty vessel then towed it to safe anchorage.

Cape Kidnappers - 01/01/09 0052 hours
Police tasked coastguard to search for missing vessel off Cape Kidnappers. Coastguard worked with Rescue Helicopter to search area between Napier and Cape using radar and night vision equipment.

Vessel returned to trailer on own at 0345 hours.
