Day Skipper
An introductory course for all members of the family or crew, including those new to boating. With a focus on the essential knowledge relevant to all boaties. Includes boat handling, safety equipment, navigation, tides and weather, rules and regulations. How to handle an emergency and the most important knots. Usually offered over a weekend or as a series of short evening sessions, or learn in your own time at your own pace through distance learning. Unit standard 26542 available. Applies to a wide range of vessels including yachts, launches, powerboats, jet skis, sea kayaks and waka.
Boatmaster
Extend your boating knowledge with this comprehensive course. Includes chartwork and navigation techniques, a thorough understanding of all the rules, distress signals and emergency procedures, plus knots and ropework. Covered over 30 hours as a series of evenings, weekend sessions or as a block course. Also available as a distance learning programme. Unit standard 26541 available.
Marine VHF Radio Operators Qualification
This is required to operate your fixed or handheld radio. Gain the know-how to communicate in an emergency. Covers all common operating functions, routine calling, trip-reports, weather and other available services. Essential learning includes how to make Mayday, Pan Pan, and safety calls, plus EPIRB operation. A concise course usually covered in 6 hours or learn at your own pace with our distance learning option. Unit standard 19491 available. MROC/Unit standard 19492 v 2 available for those venturing overseas or offshore.
